“Take it from me, the peace treaty between the government and Azimio will collapse."

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has weighed in on the new agreement between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja to have fresh talks.

In an update via Twitter on Saturday, July 29, Ahmednassir opined the talks will collapse if retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s concerns are not among the issues to be discussed in the new panel.

The Senior Counsel went on to claim that Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga is not independent of the former Head of State.

“Take it from me, the peace treaty between the government and Azimio will collapse unless it is urgently amended to incorporate the fears and needs of Uhuru Kenyatta and his constituency. It is a false narrative to spin that Raila Odinga is his own man and is 100% independent of Uhuru,” Ahmednasir stated.

This comes after Kenya Kwanza and Azimio agreed to nominate five members each to sit in a new panel.

The committee will include four members from outside Parliament, two from each side, leaders of the Majority and Minority from the National Assembly, and four additional Members of Parliament -two from each side.

Former Nigerian President Olesegun Obasanjo will facilitate the fresh talks between the two coalitions.

The two sides have already clashed on the issues that will be discussed in the committee. According to Kenya Kwanza, the new panel will discuss the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), implementation of the two-thirds gender rule and entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund.

Other issues include the establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and the embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Azimio on the other hand has stated that its four-point agenda in the talks will be the cost of living, electoral reforms, non-interference of coalitions, and police brutality.
