A woman in Lurambi, Kakamega county has been forced to part ways with her lover of many years after her husband who went missing for 17 years returned home.
Agrippina Mulupi, a resident of Emukoyani village in Butsotso ward, said she had persevered for five years after her husband Boniface Moi Muyeshi disappeared in 2006 and opted to enter into a new relationship to be able to support her children.
She says her new partner was supportive and helped her buy food and pay fees for her children.
Together, they sired a child whom she says the now-former lover is committed to supporting.
"Mimi nilikua nimesahau nikasema huyo ameenda. Nilikaa kama miaka tano nikasema nimevumilia ya kutosha sitaweza. Nilikuja nikapata mtu, hakukuwa mkenya; alikua anatoka Rwanda," Agrippina said.
"Huyo mtu alikua ananisaidia kwa maisha yangu. Alikua anapeleka watoto shule, school fees alikua analipa na hata mtoto akiwa college hakua anakosa kitu, huyo mtu alikua anamtumia. Budget ya nyumba pia alikua anafanya budget ya nyumba vizuri."
Agrippina added that the return of her husband came as a shocker to her but she had to accept the new reality.
She noted that she had to sit down with her now-former lover to tell him the whole truth about the matter.
"Sikumficha, nilikaa na yeye nikamwambia si kwa ubaya, sikufukuzi, lakini mwenye boma amerudi na lazima tutampea heshima kwa sababu enyewe hii ni boma yake. Kijana alinisikia, alijipanga, akatafuta nyumba yake na kweli saizi amekaa kwa nyumba yake," Agripina narrated.
"Nilimuambia kweli nimezaa na yeye mtoto lakini sidhani kama huyu mzee wangu atasomesha huyu mtoto. Alikubali, alisema mtoto atapambana na yeye na hata mimi nikikosa atanisaidia. Tulielewana kwa sasa tupatie mzee heshima."
The resident welcomed Muteshi with songs and dances before a cleansing ceremony was conducted to incorporate him fully into the community.
