Chief Justice David Maraga to hand over instruments of power today to his deputy Philomena Mwilu as he marks his last day in office.

Maraga passed on the baton to Mwilu in a ceremony convened at the Supreme Court on Monday, January 11.

The former CJ's retirement ceremony is set to kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12, when he turns 70.

During the power hand over, Maraga called for the strengthening of the judiciary noting that the rule of law empowers the country.

"We must continue to invest in our judiciary, bearing in mind political stability in this country can only be guaranteed if rule of law reigns. Without rule of law in this country, we will all be losers," he said.

"I assure the entire nation that I leave behind a strong Judiciary with dedicated and professional judges. I urge citizens to support judges and magistrates," the retired CJ added.

He also urged his Judiciary counterparts to be steadfast in enforcing the law adding that God and Kenyans will protect them.

"I'm sure you live in this country and you have seen the drums of political war being beaten already. My colleagues if you waver and do the wrong thing and this country descent into chaos God will never forgive you," Maraga added.
