“Governor Anne Waiguru grew up in the youth ministry in the Faith Evangelistic Ministry. She was a very prayerful girl."

Faith Evangelistic Ministry Reverend Teresia Wairimu has revealed that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was a staunch Christian during her youthful days.

Speaking on Sunday, August 13 during a church service attended by President William Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza leaders, Pastor Wairimu recalled how Governor Waiguru while in university used to move around Nairobi to recruit young people to follow Jesus.

“Governor Anne Waiguru grew up in the youth ministry in the Faith Evangelistic Ministry. She was a very prayerful girl, I remember she was in the university at the time with Ambrose and Pastor Bob Asumbo and they used to be a huge team and they were moving and shaking the city of Nairobi to win the souls of the young people to Jesus Christ,” Pastor Wairimu recalled.

Waiguru after finishing university worked at Citibank, the World Bank, and at Transparency International-Kenya as a research analyst and a consultant for the National Council of NGOs and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).

She joined the public service during the late President Mwai Kibaki’s Government as a technical advisor. Waiguru then joined the National Treasury as Head of Governance before later being appointed Head of the Economic Stimulus Programme and the Director of Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS) between 2007 and 2012.

Waiguru remained in the government after former President Uhuru Kenyatta came to power in 2013 and was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution.

She then joined politics in 2017 and successfully vied for and won the Kirinyaga County Gubernatorial seat. In the 2022 General elections, Waiguru retained her seat and is the current Chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoGs).
