Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdulahi has weighed in on Chief Justice David Maraga’s retirement stating that he has no lasting legacy.

In a series of tweets, the renowned lawyer accused Maraga of leaving behind a corrupt Supreme Court.

He further noted that Maraga’s tenure was full of hypocrisy where the CJ ‘preached water but drunk wine”.

“Leave out the polemic and propaganda...what is the lasting legacy of CJ @dkmaraga? He bequeathed to Kenyas a corrupt Supreme Court. His hypocrisy of preaching water while drinking wine was the sanctimonious fraud that defined his tenure.

"If CJ Maraga is a decent and honest Kenyan, he should come clean on the issue of the senior judge of the Supreme Court who took Kshs 220 million bribe. Me and CJ Maraga know the judge...intelligent Kenyans must read a lot on Maraga's astute silence on this matter!” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, CJ Maraga on Monday January 11, 2021 handed over instruments of power to his deputy Philomena Mwilu as he marked his last day in office.

During the power hand over, Maraga called for the strengthening of the judiciary noting that the rule of law empowers the country.

"We must continue to invest in our judiciary, bearing in mind political stability in this country can only be guaranteed if rule of law reigns. Without rule of law in this country, we will all be losers," he said.

"I assure the entire nation that I leave behind a strong Judiciary with dedicated and professional judges. I urge citizens to support judges and magistrates," the CJ added.
