Raila embarked on the UK trip after a harsh onslaught on the US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman.

Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga is out of the country.

The former prime minister departed Kenya for the United Kingdom on the evening of Friday, August 18.

He is set to engage family members and friends during the one-week long tour.

Besides the business and personal engagements, Raila's handlers also divulged the trip would be purposely for him to rest and unwind.

Speaking to Nairobi Leo, ODM director of communication Philip Etale confirmed Raila would land back by end of the coming week.

"He (Raila) did (travel) last night. He will be back end of next week," he said.

The international trip came a day after Raila took on the United States of America (USA) ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman who he accused of meddling in Kenya's affairs.

While giving her speech on the first day of the tenth Devolution Conference held in Eldoret, Whitman gave the last year's election a clean bill of health, dismissing assertions of electoral malpractice the opposition led by Raila had pointed out.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga will be in the UK for ten days.

The envoy's remarks did not sit well with Raila who harshly called her out.

Referring to her as "rogue ambassador", Raila cautioned Whitman against taking sides in issues pertinent to Kenyans.

He said he would call for her recall back to Washington DC if she would not desist from "interfering" with Kenyans' issues.

"I want to tell the rogue ambassador Kenya is not the United States or a colony of the United States. Keep your mouth shut while here otherwise we will call for your recall back to your country,” said Raila

Raila's offensive against Whitman rattled President William Ruto who came out in the defense of the envoy.

The American ambassador said two statements of facts. She said the last election was the most free and fair in the history of Kenya, which is a statement of fact. She said Kenya is open for business, which is also a statement of fact,” Ruto stated.

The Head of State who spoke on the conference's last day also wondered who between the opposition and the US government is more roque.

“Between the people who are orchestrating the destruction of property and sabotaging our economy and those who are working with us to create investment opportunities and investment capital for the people of Kenya who is more rogue? I think it is for the people of Kenya to judge,” Ruto added.
