National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Wednesday, August 23 visited Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina at Nairobi Hospital after she was attacked and injured.
Wetangula in a statement said Maina is responding well to treatment at the hospital after she was hurt in the head.
“Hon. Maina is responding well to treatment at the hospital. She recounted to us the ordeals of the unfortunate incident that caused her serious injuries. I thank Doctors at the hospital for the medical attention they have given to our colleague and we wish her a quick recovery,” Wetang’ula stated.
He at the same time condemned the attack on the UDA Women Rep and called upon investigating authorities to take action on the attack.
“I reiterate that the National Assembly calls for thorough investigations by Police officers into the matter. We condemn any form of violence to anybody, regardless of their standing in the society,” he stated.
Maina was injured after she was by goons at her function in Kerugoya town on Tuesday, August 22.
In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the Woman Rep escaped on foot before being ferried to the Kerugoya Hospital for first aid before she was airlifted to Nairobi.
Speaking to the media after the incident, Maina said that everything was going on smoothly in the event until a group of youth on motorbikes invaded the function and attacked her.
"A group of young people came on motorcycles, and they are people I know. I have shed blood, but I must advocate for the people of Kirinyaga. I will not leave Kirinyaga, I have been elected here, and I must fight for the people of Kirinyaga to get their right to water,” she stated.
