President Ruto responded while visiting the Navakholo Kenya Medical Training College in Kakamega County.

President William Ruto has hit back at the Azimio la Umoja coalition after they criticized his remarks on fighting corrupt cartels.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 30 in Navakholo, Kakamega County  Ruto said he will not back down on his fight against the corrupt individuals.

"Azimio people have gone to issue a statement defending thieves, corrupt individuals, and scammers, saying that people should continue to steal Mumias money. That is impossible. They have written about me in the newspapers, I don't know what the law society said, let me repeat it so they can hear it clearly,

“I said that corrupt individuals, scammers, and thieves who steal the people's money, have destroyed the Mumias sugar company, they went and brought down Nzoia, and then they come here pretending, I said they should leave Kenya. If they don't leave, we will lock them up in jail, and if they continue, they should plan to go to heaven,” said Ruto.

The Head of State also said he will not be bribed by the sugar cartels so that they can continue exploiting sugar farmers.

“Kuna watu wamezoea hapo wanapatia viongozi pesa kidogo, mimi ni mtu wa kupewa pesa kidogo? watafte mtu wa kupea pesa kidogo, I am not interested,” Ruto asserted.

Azimio on Tuesday condemned the President, saying his comments threatened investors who do not support him.

The opposition said there were better ways of dealing with cartels than threatening them.

"It is quite disturbing to hear a whole President threatening investors in Kenya by claiming that they will be arrested, deported or taken to heaven. What message is the President sending to investors who are not explicitly supporting him? Does it mean that if your political views differ with the president then you risk falling short of your rights,” Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo stated.
