The move comes at a time when President William Ruto is talking tough on Sugar cartels.

A Dubai-based firm has filed a notice to withdraw a case challenging the 20-year lease awarded to a Ugandan-based Sarrai group.

Sarrai Group was awarded the lease to manage the ailing Mumias Sugar Company.

Vartox Resources Inc. had moved to the court of appeal seeking to be allowed to adduce more evidence in relation to the April 14 ruling delivered by Justice Alfred Mabeya that cancelled the lease awarded to the Sarrai Group.

The company on Wednesday, however, filed a notice to withdraw the case.

President William Ruto.

“Take notice that Vartox Resources Inc., the third respondent in these proceedings hereby wholly withdraws its application dated December 25, 2022,” the application filed at the Court of Appeal read.

The move comes at a time when President William Ruto is talking tough on Sugar cartels saying he will not allow them to sabotage the revival of the public companies.

Ruto who recently said he directed removal court cases further directed that all those corrupt individuals should vacate Kenya.

“Hawa wakora wote watoke. Hio kampuni ni ya wananchi na tutaipangia upya. Hakuna kesi tutaentertain hapo. Kesi watoe na wao wenyewe watoke,” Ruto said.

“Wakitaka kuniletea kisirani either wahame Kenya ama nitawaweka jela ama wasafiri waende mbinguni."

The remarks came hot on the heels of the alleged abduction of Billionaire Jaswant Rai who controls almost 40 percent of Sugar consumed in Kenya.

Rai's abduction has been linked to remarks by Ruto with a section of Kenyans claiming he could be the cartel referenced by the President.
