CS Kindiki assured the public that his ministry is determined to eliminate the backlog of passport applications.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki now says that the reforms initiated at the Department of Immigration have started to yield positive results.

In a statement on Thursday, September 7 after visiting Nyayo House, CS Kindiki noted that Kenyans seeking passports other documents are being served with courtesy.

“Reviewed operations at the Immigration Department are bearing fruit. Citizens seeking passports and other vital citizenship documents are being served with courtesy, and their inquiries responded to by our members of staff,” he stated.

The Interior CS assured the public that his ministry is determined to eliminate the backlog of applications.

“We are determined to clear the backlog and process new applications expeditiously,” Kindiki added.

This comes days after Kindiki announced that access to the Immigration Department Headquarters in Nyayo House will be restricted to members of staff and service-seekers with the necessary documents.

"No person will be allowed to hang around Nyayo House, and being a facility processing vital security documents, access will only be granted to applicants with the necessary documents and staff members," Kindiki said in a statement on August 31.

The Interior CS disclosed that the crackdown on cartels extorting applicants for passports had been initiated.

"The crackdown on cartels extorting applicants of passports and other vital citizenship documents at the immigration department is on, and all those involved in the criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Kindiki stated.
