The MPs were earlier fined Ksh 1 million and directed to offer a written apology.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has announced that Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Rongo MP Paul Abuor will be suspended from the party for a year.

Speaking on Friday, September 8 in Migori, Raila said the MPs will be required to pay a fine of Ksh 1 million within 60 days after which they will remain suspended for a year.

"Those who we have set aside, we have told them that you made mistakes, but since you have acknowledged your mistakes, we will impose a fine of one million shillings on you to pay within sixty days, and then you will stay out until after one year,” Raila stated.

The Azimio leader also noted that the two MPs will not hold any party positions until their suspension is over.

"You can't be a chairman, you've been sent to purgatory, clean yourself up first, and then if you prove to be okay, you will be forgiven,” Raila added.

"Those whom you appointed to oversee the party will continue to conduct party activities until that time."

The committee also expelled MPs; Elisha Ochieng’ Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Tom Ojienda (Senator of Kisumu County) and Phelix Odiwuor Kodhe (Lang’ata over the same accusations.

The ODM NEC directed the party to commence the process of removing them from the register of the party.
