Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has directed all police officers across the country to crack down on organized criminal gangs.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 19, Kindiki assured Kenyans of their safety saying the government will not tolerate any criminal elements.
“Security officers in Busia County and other parts of the Country where organised criminal gangs are terrorising innocent citizens are directed to ruthlessly crackdown on these elements and their leaders. The Government has zero tolerance to criminal elements and assures citizens of their safety and security,” said Kindiki.
At the same time, the Interior CS said the government will establish more administrative units across the country to bring services closer to the people.
Kindiki however warned police officers against demanding bribes from citizens saying they will face administrative action and be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“All National Government Administration Officers must serve citizens with dedication and courtesy. Any officer demanding bribes will not only be liable to administrative action but prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Kindiki added.
He also noted that the government will deal firmly and decisively with cross-border security issues to enhance trade and peaceful coexistence between Kenya and its neighbors.
To ease congestion in border towns, reduce road accidents, and boost trade between Kenya and other East African Community member states, Kindiki said the government will prioritise the dualisation of the Eldoret-Bungoma-Malaba road.
