Wycliffe Oparanya was arrested on August 23 together with his two wives over the embezzlement of Ksh 1.3 billion from Kakamega County.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson David Oginde has revealed that the commission has completed investigations against former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 3 while appearing before the National Dialogue Committee, Oginde said EACC has forwarded the file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further investigations.

“As we speak, we have just concluded our investigations on this particular person we have forwarded that file to the office of the director of public prosecution for further action. We cannot do that unless there is evidence of wrongdoing,” Oginde stated.

Oparanya was arrested on August 23 together with his two wives at detained at the EACC offices in Nairobi.

EACC in a statement after the arrested alleged that Oparanya is linked to embezzlement of Ksh 1.3 billion from Kakamega County.

The commission pointed out that the county funds were looted through proxies and associates of the former governor.

“The Commission conducted a successful search on various targets as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of embezzlement of public funds amounting to over Kes. 1.3 billion from Kakamega County during the reign of former Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, and where it was found that public funds were unlawfully acquired through proxies and associates,” EACC stated.

Speaking after the grilling, Oparanya claimed that the Kenya Kwanza government was using EACC to force him to decamp from the Azimio coalition and join President William Ruto’s camp.
