President William Ruto on Wednesday reshuffled his cabinet leading to office of the Prime CS being given additional duties.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has dismissed claims that the roles of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were reduced in the recent Cabinet reshuffle while that of Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi increased.

In a statement on his X platform, the Lawyer said the difference between the two is like day and night.

Miguna said the DP has a clearly defined role that is well captured in the constitution and can therefore not be reduced.

He said the CS serves according to the wishes of the Constitution.

"Why are some Kenyans getting too excited about a mini cabinet reshuffle? The position and functions of the Deputy President are enshrined in the Constitution," the Lawyer said.

"That of the Prime Cabinet Secretary is the prerogative of the President. Not the Constitution. Apples and Oranges."

President William Ruto on Wednesday reshuffled his cabinet resulting in Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi taking over the Foreign Affairs docket that was being handled by CS Alfred Mutua.

Some of the foreign affairs roles were being handled by DP Gachagua. 

The move to domicile the ministry under the Mudavadi has been viewed as a move that reduced the DP's influence.

In the reshuffle, Mutua will now handle the Tourism and Wildlife docket.

In other changes, Trade CS Moses Kuria was moved to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management.

EAC CS Rebecca Miano was moved to the Trade and Industry docket.

Water CS Alice Wahome has swapped positions with Zachary Njeru of the Ministry of Lands, Public Works and Urban Development.
