Neil Wigan was appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Kenya in April replacing Jane Marriott.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, October 11 met with the new British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan.

In a statement shared by the Orange Democratic Party (ODM), the two reflected on the long historical ties between Kenya and Britain.

The meeting was also attended by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa.

“Party Leader Raila Odinga today held talks with the new British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan. They reflected on & lauded the long historical ties between Kenya & the UK. DAP_Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa & Minority Leader in the NA Opiyo Wandayi also attended,” ODM stated.

Wigan in a statement via his X account after the meeting said he had an insightful meeting with Raila on democracy and politics adding that he looks forward to having more meeting with the opposition chief.

“Insightful first meeting with Raila Odinga today on democracy and politics in Kenya, and the historical relationship. I look forward to many more meetings,” Wigan stated.

He was appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Kenya in April replacing Jane Marriott who served in the position for four years.

Before his appointment as the UK Ambassador to Kenya, Wigan served the same role in Tel Aviv Israel.

He has also previously served as the UK Ambassador to Somalia and DRC. The father of two has also worked as the FCO Director Africa from 2015 to 2018.
