While noting that Mwenda could become Kenya's CJ in future, Sonko offered to sponsor him to reputable law schools abroad.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has sustained his defence on Brian Mwenda, who was found to have faked his lawyership credentials.

Mwenda was busted by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which said the former's credentials could not be traced in the lawyers' online directory.

While meeting him, Sonko said he had not committed any crime by actively practising law regardless of the lack of proper qualifications.

He said Mwenda was brilliant, and he ought to have been lauded for that.

"It is very sad to see guys attacking this grilling legal mind on social media. All those attacking this friend of mine are irrational. He has never killed anyone; he is not a terrorist or a criminal. He is just using his brains," said Sonko.

Brian Mwenda was busted for practising law without credentials.

The politician said he would support Mwenda to face the justice system if he is required to do so.

He further promised to enrol the embattled man to reputable law schools abroad for him to acquire the proper credentials to practise law.

"As I have stated earlier, we are going to ensure that he goes back to school. We are making plans and have initiated processes to admit him to international universities. Let us not condemn him. He is capable of becoming the Chief Justice. He is innocent until proven otherwise," said Sonko.

On his part, Mwenda stated his willingness to face the justice system to shed light on the saga.

He refuted reports that he had been arrested, assuring his family that he was safe.

"I would like to convey my gratitude to the people supporting and praying for me. In the fullness of time, I will be able to clear this misunderstanding. I will also be able to prove my innocence and provide the actual context of what is really happening," he said.

"I also want to convey to my family that I am safe and I am not arrested as earlier indicated. I am very open to availing myself to any police station when the time is right," he said.
