The Governor said a Meru OCS apologised for the arrest.

Police have denied claims that they arrested Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

This emerged after the Governor claimed that the police had detained her in their vehicle.

A video seen by Nairobi Leo captured an altercation between Mwangaza and the police where an officer denied arresting the governor.

"Hakuna mtu amearrest wewe. Nimekuomba ushuke kwa gari uendelee na kazi yako lakini umekata kushuka," the officer said.

The Governor, however, told him off saying:

"Ulikuja Kufanya nini? Hapana, niambie ulikuja Kufanya nini?"

But the Police officer responded:

"Ile kitu iko, tulikua tunafikiria hii ni Okolea."

But Mwangaza fired back telling the officer," Wakati ulikuja pale nilikuambi hii sio okole ama sikukuambia? Hizi camera zilikua live".

The officer went on to admit that indeed the governor confirmed that the event was not Okolea program but went on to accuse the governor of forcing her way into the police vehicle.

"Nilikupata umeingia kwa gari. Kama nilikosea I am very sorry," the officer said before Mwangaza interjected saying "Ni wewe uliniweka kwa gari".

But the officer denied forcing Governor Mwangaza into the car.

Commenting on the incident, the National Police Service said:

"Contrary to the false allegations circulating on social media, the National Police Service wishes to clarify, that Police have not arrested Meru Governor, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza."

Already, Governor Mwangaza has confirmed her release from police custody saying the officers have apologised to her.

"Finally. Am Free. I thank God am safe. OCS has apologised akasema Sorry," she said.
