Despite the meeting registering high attendance, notable leaders like CS Moses Kuria were no-show. 

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Saturday, October 21, met with the eminent business leaders from Mt Kenya to deliberate on the issues pertinent to the region's populace. 

This was on the sidelines of the Mount Kenya Golf Festival at the Nyeri Club.

The meeting was majorly on the economic well-being of the populous region.

On the agenda were the issues around the agriculture sector notably with a bias to coffee, tea and milk subsectors which constitute the major revenue earners for the Mt Kenya residents.

In the meeting, the deputy president noted the damage supposed cartels in the forgoing subsectors had done to the farmers who have constantly traded with losses.

He restated his vow to deal with the supposed cartels that he suggested have suppressed the coffee, tea and milk markets to the detriment of farmers.

The meeting registered a high attendance of leaders from across the region; both Mt Kenya East and West.

Some notable leaders like Public Service CS Moses Kuria and his Water counterpart Alice Wahome were absent.

Among leaders included Governors: Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Irungu Kang'ata (Murang'a), Nyeri Deputy Governor David Kinaniri. 

Senators Wahome in attendance included Wamatinga (Nyeri), Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), John Methu (Nyandarua), John Kinyua (Laikipia), Tabitha Karanja (Nakuru, also Senate Deputy Majority Leader) and Veronica Maina (Nominated).

Members of Parliament present included Sabina Chege (Jubilee Party Leader and nominated MP), Maina Mathenge (Nyeri Town), John Kaguchia (Mukurweini), Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), and Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni) among others.

Woman Representatives included Rahab Mukami (Nyeri), Jane Kagiri (Laikipia), Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Njeri Maina alias Gaceri (Kirinyaga), Betty Njeri (Murang'a), Ann Wamuratha (Kiambu), Susan Ngugi (Tharaka Nithi). 

Kanini Kega and Maina Karobia represented those from EALA.

The deputy president has been holding the region dear, appreciating the role it played in propelling President Willian Ruto to power.

For a time, he has been calling for unity of the region ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the regional unity calls, Gachagua restated the need for the country to unite as one people.

"We also took time to discuss the need to forge a one Kenya, united, to make our nation better where everyone is free and lives a dignified life," he said.
