President William Ruto says the prices of maize meal would not skyrocket again owing to the bumper harvest recorded in this year's planting season(s).
The president noted that the prices of the commodity regarded as Kenya's staple food had reduced significantly as compared to last year ahead of the vote.
For a time, the commodity had retailed at an all-time high of above KSh 200, with the ordinary citizenry getting concerned that it could rise to KSh 250.
Ruto observed that the lasting solution as regards the prices would be to empower the farmers to take advantage of the rains to enable good production.
Taking credit for the prayers he led the nation in January this year, the president declared that a 2 kg packet of maize flour would not cost beyond KSh 230.

"We went to Nyayo Stadium to pray for the rains, and some people mocked us. But God has given us rains which we have not seen in the last four seasons. We do not want to go back to where unga was Ksh230. We will never go there again, God will help us," he said.
The president spoke on Sunday, October 22, in Riruta, Dagoreti South where he attended a church service.
At the same time, the head of state allayed the fears of destructive El Nino rains that the weatherman had predicted a few months back.
Ruto said the situation would be manageable, further observing that the rains had so far been moderate and favourable to the farmers.
"We had reports that the country would experience El Nino, which had the potential to destroy property. But God has been faithful. We have now heard meteorologists saying that will no longer be the case. We will just have heavy rains. We thank God," said Ruto.
