“We have a plan for that road in fact we have received billions from investors."

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has banned hawking on the pavements along the Tom Mboya Street section leading to Moi Avenue.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 25, during a consultative meeting with inspectors manning CBD and the representatives of hawkers, Sakaja said the move is aimed at restoring order in the capital city.

“We have said Tom Mboya coming all the way to Moi Avenue the lanes connecting the two we will have no hawking there, no stage business there we will find another place in fact maybe they should be given a priority in the back lanes,” said Sakaja.

The Nairobi Governor explained that his administration is planning to expand the road and has already received money from investors.

“We have a plan for that road in fact we have received billions from investors, from the French Development Agency, I was in Paris we are doing BRT. We are going to expand that road to be walkable,” he stated.

Governor Sakaja at the same time said the county has scrapped parking fees on the weekends to support trade in the city.

“As promised, parking fees on the weekend have been scrapped to further support the operation of pop-up markets and trade in more parts of the City. We have agreed to continue training our City inspectorate officers who must work professionally and with respect which must be mutual,” Sakaja added.
