Running battles ensued during the protest after anti-riot police were deployed to tame demos.

Chaos and teargas were the order of the day at Machakos University after Students went on the rampage. 

Reports indicate that the students took to the streets to protest over the delayed disbursement of Helb funds while others also linked the demos to the delayed release of school funds.

The officers were forced to hurl tear gas canisters at the charged crowd even as they closed leading to the closure of the Machakos – Wote road.

The university is located off Machakos-Wote Road.

The road also leads to Machakos Central Business District.

Its closure was to also prevent the students from taking the demos there.
