Chirchir said the war, if it continues, will deal a huge blow to global crude prices hence leading to a rise in the prices of fuel.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirhcir says the fuel prices are likely to hit Sh300 per liter if the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas continues.

Speaking before the National Dialogue Committee on Monday, Chirchir said the war, if it continues, will deal a huge blow to global crude prices.

This, he said, will see the prices of fuel hit a record high in the next review by the Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority.

“The international prices of fuel could go up to 150 dollars. This would literally mean our petroleum prices could go up to Sh300 per liter at the Pump. Our hope is that it will not get there,” he said.

He was responding to questions from NADCO members who sought answers regarding what the government is doing to address the rising cost of fuel.

The review by EPRA is always communicated on the 14th of every month.

A liter of Petrol is currently being sold at Sh217.

The CS was accompanied by his Treasury counterpart Njuguna Ndung'u at the National Dialogue Committee.

The increase in fuel prices was also caused by a review of VAT from 8 Percent to 16 Percent.
