Kenya National Highways Authority has announced the closure of the Modika – Nuno – Modogashe highway damaged extensively by floods.

In an update regarding the matter, KeNHA said they have moved construction equipment to Maalmin and initiated the construction of diversion roads.

This KeNHA said is to enable the reinstatement of sections of Modika – Nuno – Modogashe which were extensively damaged and cut off by ongoing heavy rains.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the area leading to the closure of the roads.

Modika – Nuno – Modogashe road closed after being destroyed by floods.

"Heavy rains experienced in the area have caused flooding in the area as well as erosion of murram at the approaches to culverts," KeNHA said.

"As a precaution, the public is advised to avoid driving in moving sheet water, traveling at night, and driving on off-road pathways."

Prior to this, several other roads were closed in the North Eastern region.

Another road closed is the Isiolo - Merille Road because of flooding and heavy siltation overtopping the Road at Kirish Centre rendering it impassable.

The Garissa - Daadab (A3) Road at Saretho Town which is 30 kilometers from Daadab Town and 60 kilometers from Modika Town, has also been closed until the rainwater subsides.

"The public is advised to avoid traveling at night, driving on off-road pathways, and driving in moving sheet water to avoid potential accidents and injuries."
