Rescue efforts are currently underway.

A passenger plane has crashed into Lake Victoria in Bukoba in Tanzania’s Kagera region. 

According to photos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke on Sunday, November 6, the plane was submerged in the water with only part of its tail above the water.

Rescue operations were underway at the time publishing, with an official report on the fatalities not yet available.

The plane belonged to Precision Air, an airline that operates in Tanzania.

According to Tanzanian media outlets, the plane was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba before crashing into the lake on an attempt to land at Bukoba Airport.

Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) reported on Sunday that the crash may have been caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall experienced in the region.

Precision Air later released a statement confirming the incident but did not give out the number of passengers that had boarded the plane.

"Precision Air flight No. 494, flying from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba, was involved in an accident as it was approaching Bukoba Airport. The rescue team has been dispatched to the scene," read the statement.
