Mwangi first raided the homestead of 99-year-old Stanley Ngige  Kimani and attempted to steal a car.

Police have shot dead a man who went berserk and hammered two people to death in Kimana area, Kajiado County.

Loitoktok Police Commander David Kabuthia confirmed the incident and said it involved a 22-year-old man named Mwangi.

According to Kabuthia, Mwangi first raided the homestead of 99-year-old Stanley Ngige  Kimani and attempted to steal a car.

The move saw children at the compound raise alarm forcing the 99-year-old man to come out of the house to establish what was going on.

Police say it is then that the 22-year-old hit the old man on the head with an iron bar killing him on the spot.

A neighbor who heard the commotion responded to the situation by going to the homestead of the 99-year-old.

Upon realizing the attacker was armed, the neighbor, police said, attempted to run away but he was hammered by the accused person also killing him on the spot.

The accused is also said to have left the homestead with his weapon and went towards the Kimana area where he accosted a tuktuk operator identified as Simon Kihara and attacked him again.

The tuktuk operator sustained injuries but managed to escape and went to report the incident at the nearby police station.

Police were deployed to the scene and they managed to find the accused along the road armed with his weapon.

The man was asked to surrender but he declined and instead attempted to attack the police officers during which he damaged the police vehicle and injured the driver.

This forced police officers to open fire killing him on the spot.
