The clarification comes after a digital card puporting to come from Nation urged motorists who use the Nairobi Expressway to use alternative routes.

The Moja Expressway Company has flagged a digital card circulating on social media claiming the Nairobi Expressway has cracks.

In a statement via the X platform on Wednesday, November 29, the company said the reports are fake asking Kenyans to beware of misleading information.

The company shared a real picture of the Nairobi Expressway and compared it to the fake one which was showing cracks.

“Beware of false and misleading information,” the company stated.

The Nation Media Group (NMG) has also denied ownership of the digital card which was disguised as coming from the media house.

“Fake news alert! Please be advised that this card doing rounds on social media is fake,” Nation stated.

The fake digital card dated November 28 claimed that the Nairobi Expressway urged motorists to use alternative routes.

"The Nairobi Expressway Co asks motorists to use alternative means after cracks start to appear on the expressway," the fake card stated.

The Nairobi Expressway was constructed under a public-private partnership between the government of Kenya and China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The 27-kilometre toll road starts from Mlolongo in Machakos county and ends up at the James Gichuru junction along Waiyaki Way.

The Expressway was opened on July 31, 2022, by retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.
