Murkomen on Thursday said the crackdown is part of his efforts to bring sanity to the transport subsector.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Friday, December 1 launched a nationwide crackdown on private vehicles operating as Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

This is following a directive by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

“Joint NTSA NPS road safety enforcement exercise kicks off across the Country, following a directive on illegal PSV's by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen,” NTSA said in a statement via its X handle.

CS Murkomen on Thursday while addressing the Matatu Owners Association (MOA) National Delegates Conference at KICC, Nairobi said the crackdown is part of his efforts to bring sanity to the transport subsector.

The transport CS also observed there is a growing number of private vehicles that have illegally converted into PSVs without following regulations.

“This directive is aimed at addressing growing cases where private vehicles are illegally converted into PSVs without adhering to the mandatory regulations and compliance measures governing public transport,” Murkomen added.
