Suluhu was expected to be among the chief guests as Kenya celebrates its 60th Jamuhuri Day.  

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu on Tuesday, December 12 failed to attend the Jamuhuri Day Celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

President Suluhu instead sent the President of Zanzibar Hussein Mwinyi to represent her in the event.

Mwinyi in his address revealed that President Suluhu could not attend the event as she was addressing floods that have affected the northern part of Tanzania.

"Honorable Doctor Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, greatly desired to attend these celebrations. However, due to the significant impact of the floods that have affected our country in the northern region, she was unable to come in person. Instead, she has instructed me to represent her at the event,” Mwinyi explained.

President Suluhu was expected to be among the chief guests as Kenya marks sixty years since becoming a republic.

Other foreign dignitaries who attended the event include; Sahle Work Zewde of Ethiopia, Deputy President of Burundi Prosper Bazombanza and Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga.

King Charles III earlier lauded the country for significant steps to hit 60 years since the country gained independence.

"Dear Mr President, I would like to send my heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency, and the people of the Republic of Kenya on Jamhuri Day, which is particularly significant this year as you mark sixty years since Independence," King Charles III's message read in part.
