"I consistently encourage residents of our great county to hold my administration accountable in a responsible manner."

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has dismissed reports that he called for the arrest of bloggers attacking Isiolo leaders online.

In a statement on Thursday, December 14, Guyo said an article that was published by Nation on Wednesday was wrong.

Noting that he has always welcomed objective criticism, Guyo urged Isiolo residents to hold his administration accountable.

“I wish to address the article published by The Daily Nation yesterday, which alleges that I have called for the arrest of bloggers residing in Isiolo County.

“It is crucial to clarify that, as the duly elected Governor of Isiolo County, my office has always welcomed objective criticism. Furthermore, I consistently encourage residents of our great county to hold my administration accountable in a responsible manner,” the statement read in part.

The Isiolo county boss went on to say as a leader he has never interfered with the freedom of expression which is guaranteed by the constitution.

Guyo wondered why the Nation used his photo in the article yet he was not quoted anywhere within it.

“I hereby request that in the future, The Daily Nation practices responsible journalism. With this statement, I aim to exercise my right of reply by presenting the aforementioned facts,” he stated.

In the article, Nation reported that a section of Isiolo leaders led by Deputy Governor James Lowasa appealed for protection against online attacks by local youths.

Lowasa claimed that the attacks were discouraging leaders from delivering on their promises to the electorate.
