"There is this app moving around on social media claiming they are in partnership with me to give out loans to the public. I wish to distance myself from it."

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has distanced himself from a digital loaning application purporting to offer loans to Kenyans.

Sonko in a statement via X on Friday, December 15 clarified he has no partnership with the application.

The former county boss noted that the app is being operated by fraudsters trying to swindle money from Kenyans.

“Good morning, good people. There is this app moving around on social media claiming they are in partnership with me to give out loans to the public. I wish to distance myself from it as it's being operated by fraudsters who are trying to swindle money from members of the public,” Sonko stated.

His clarification comes after a Facebook account named Mike Sonko Rescue Loans sponsored an advertisement on the social media platform.

The post claimed that the Mkopo Extra app was partnering with Sonko to offer loans of up to Sh 100,000 instantly.

“Mkopo Extra, in Partnership with Mike Sonko, is giving loan aid to all Kenyans. Receive up to Sh 100,000 instantly,” the post read.
