The Affordable Housing Programme is the latest government service to comply with the government's directive on the digital payment system.

The Ministry of Lands Public Works, Housing, And Urban Development has announced the migration of payments to the official government Paybill number 222222.

In a public notice on Monday December 18, the Ministry said the move is in accordance to an Executive directive.

“In line with His Excellency The President's directive to onboard Government services to a single digital payment platform, paybill number 222222, and as communicated in Gazette Vol. CXXIV-No. 287 Gazette Notice No. 16008, we wish to notify our esteemed Boma Yangu members and members of the public that we will migrate payments for the Affordable Housing Program from Safaricom paybill number 005500 to the designated paybill number 222222,” read the statement in part.

Under the new payment mode, Kenyans who are making savings will be required to enter the 222222 paybill number while the account number will be the name BOMA followed by individual ID number.

“For direct-to-paybill savings, the applicable account number will be BOMA followed by the member's ID Number (e.g. Paybill No. 222222, Account No: BOMΑ12345678),” the Ministry noted.

The Affordable Housing Programme is the latest government service to comply with the government's directive on the digital payment system.

President William Ruto in June announced that all government agencies would use one payment channel to ensure efficiency.

The Head of State also noted that a single paybill would reduce corruption in government offices as it would limit physical interactions.
