CS Machogu said KNEC has completed marking the KCSE examinations and is currently compiling, verifying, and validating the scores.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) results will be released in the second week of January 2024.

Speaking on Thursday December 28, CS Machogu said the Kenya National examination Council (KNEC) has completed marking the KCSE examinations and is currently compiling, verifying and validating the scores.

A total of 903, 260 students sat for the 2023 KCSE exams which started on October 23 and were completed on November 24.

The 2023 KCSE candidates are set to benefit from the new grading structure which was recommended by the Presidential Working Party, on Education Reforms and unveiled in August.

In the new structure, students will be graded on their performance in Mathematics and any language including English, Kiswahili, or National Sign Language.

Previously, students were graded on seven subjects including English, Kiswahili, mathematics, and two sciences and other technical subjects.

CS Machogu while appearing before the National Assembly Education Committee on December 7 hinted at doing away with use of SMS to access KCSE results.

The Education CS said the move resulted from the system hitches in the recently released KCPE results.

“As the ministry, everything was right, an outsider who was given the contract did not conform and do to the required standards, moving forward when we release the KCSE examination, it means we will not be able to use the service provider,” said Machogu.

He disclosed that the Ministry of Education had engaged ICT experts to develop a portal where the public will be able to access the KCSE results free of charge.
