Citizen TV reporter Martin Munene has been praised for helping save passengers trapped following a tragic accident involving a 14-seater matatu, a personal car, and a motorbike.

The accident occurred along the Nyeri - Nyahururu highway near Solio Ranch Gate where six people were confirmed dead on Thursday, December 28.

However, According to St John Ambulance, the Citizen TV reporter and his colleagues including Citizen TV Camera operator Ephantus Macharia instead of just reporting rushed to the scene and helped with the rescue mission.

Munene was among the first responders at the scene where the personal car was heavily damaged.

"St John Ambulance commends journalists from Kameme TV Purity Wahu, Citizen TV Camera operator Ephantus Macharia and reporter Martin Munene among others for swinging into action to rescue a number of trapped passengers involved in a road accident in Nyeri yesterday," the organization stated.

Confirming the incident, Kieni West Deputy Sub-county commander Bernard Muthomi indicated that one motorist swerved to avoid hitting a pothole leading to the tragic accident.

"The driver of the saloon car was avoiding hitting the potholes on the highway and this is believed to have caused the accident," he stated.
