Arati was giving a speech, leading to a fracas that saw gunshots fired and residents forced to flee for safety.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has revealed the cause of chaos and fracas witnessed in the county in recent times leading to loss of lives.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, January 16, Arati attributed the chaos to political differences stemming from his resolve to fight graft.

" There some people who wanted to be paid for supplying nothing. So my wrangles have been caused by my purge against corruption," Arati stated.

"Any leader making noise is Kisii is either the one I have denied a tender contract or I have refused to pay the money they are claiming for supplying nothing. ask them any of my wrongdoings, they will not mention anything," Arati added.

At the same time, Arati accused South Mugirango MP Silvanos Osoro of being sponsored by some political figures to cause mayhem in Kisii, especially during his meetings.

He denied claims of harbouring a past grudge against Osoro leading to the recent cases of unrest witnessed in Kisii.

"I don't believe there is any difference between the two of us. But I believe Osoro is being used by some political figures in some way," Arati stated.

Responding to Arati, Osoro who joined the interview on the phone, accused the governor of disrupting his meeting, leading to the fracas

Arati was in South Mugirango issuing bursaries when trouble erupted. A group of youth, accompanied by police stormed the meeting as Arati was giving a speech, leading to a fracas that saw gunshots fired and residents forced to flee for safety.

At least four people sustained gunshot wounds. Arati later claimed an attempt was made at his life, saying he was targeted but God saved him.

Despite their fallout, both Arati and Osoro called for peace in the region. However, Arati questioned Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki for remaining silent despite the chaos and political unrest in Kisii.
