President Ruto on Friday last week vowed that those responsible for Sniper's murder will face justice. 

Key suspects in the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard alias Sniper were on Monday, January 29 arraigned and charged before the Kiambu High Court.

In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the two suspects allegedly murdered Sniper between 2nd December 2023 and 6th December 2023 at River Mutonga in Ciakariga Sub-County within Tharaka Nithi County.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and will remain in police custody pending filing of a bail application.

“Vincent Murithi Kirimi Alias Supuu O'mioro and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai Alias Tali were charged with murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code (Cap. 63) after the mental assessments determined that they were both fit to stand trial.

“They pleaded not guilty before Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony and will be remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending filing a bail application by the defense and a subsequent response by the prosecution,” read the statement in part.

The ODPP mentioned that the court directed the Probation and Aftercare Service to conduct a social inquiry and file a pre-bail report on the two suspects within fourteen days.

The case will come up for mention on 29 February 2024.

This comes after President William Ruto vowed that those responsible for Sniper's murder will face justice. 

The Head of State who was speaking on Friday during a tour to Meru County said cases of Kenyans being killed will not continue.

“In the case of that young man Snipper, the government is following up on the case till those that took his life are arrested so that they face the law. Cases of Kenyans losing their lives through murder can not continue in this country,’ said Ruto.
