Ex-CS Henry Rotich Lands Plum Job In Ruto's Government

President William Ruto has appointed former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich as his economic Advisor.

In the new role, Rotich will be the Senior Advisor on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy.

The former CS will replace Kamau Thugge who served in the role before being appointed as the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor.

In the new role, Rotich will be tasked with advising President Ruto on budget and fiscal policies reflecting on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The appointment comes barely two months after Rotich was cleared in the Sh 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

Magistrate Eunice Nyutu while issuing the ruling on December 14 said Rotich and the 8 co-accused had no case to answer as no evidence was tabled in court to warrant them being placed on their defense.

"All the accused persons in this case are hereby acquitted under section 210 due to lack of evidence as a result of the reckless dereliction of duty by the prosecution," Nyutu ruled.

Rotich was facing a total of nineteen charges including unlawfully executing loan agreements to finance the Arror and Kimwarer dams.

In 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives arrested the former CS over embezzlement of funds meant for the two dams.

Rotich held the Treasury docket under former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration from 2013 to January 2020 when he was replaced by Ukur Yatani.

Before becoming a CS, Rotich served as the head of Macroeconomics at the Treasury.

He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
