Former police chief Zachary Kingori Mwangi is dead.
In a statement on Sunday February 11, Kingori’s family said the former police boss died at a hospital in Nairobi where he was undergoing treatment.
“We wish to inform the public of the death of Mr Kingori Mwangi, a retired police officer. Kingori passed on this morning at a Nairobi hospital where he was receiving treatment. The family will update the public on the burial plans. Kingori Mwangi Family,” read the statement in part.
Kingori had a distinguished career in the National Police Service (NPS) serving as the police boss in the Nairobi, Western, and Coast regions.
He also served as the Kiganjo Kenya Police College Commandant and director of operations at police headquarters.
Kingori also served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before retiring from the public service in 2020.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko eulogized Kingori as a top gun whom the sky was the limit in law enforcement.
Sonko disclosed that he met Kingori last week at Upper Hill together with the chairman of Regiment Club Peterson Maina, former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, and former Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Thuita Mwangi.
“I have just received some sad news that Kingori Mwangi has gone to be with the Lord. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Sonko stated.
