How President Ruto Has Honored International Women's Day

President William Ruto has announced the appointment of 16 women as Kenyan ambassadors to various countries.

Speaking on Friday in Embu, the President said the appointments are in honor of International Women’s Day.

According to Ruto out of the 16 appointments, 10 women will serve as ambassadors while the other 6 will be deputy ambassadors.

“As part of the celebration of this International Women’s Day in Embu, this morning I have appointed 10 more women as ambassadors in different parts of the world and another six deputy ambassadors in recognition of the contribution of women in the leadership of women,” Ruto announced.

However, the Head of State did not disclose the countries that the new ambassadors have been deployed to.

At the same time, President Ruto directed Gender CS Aisha Jumwa to remove the requirement for collateral when women are borrowing money from the Women Enterprise Fund.

He also directed CS Jumwa to reduce the interest rate for women borrowing from the fund to 6 percent and to restructure the fund to reach more women across the country.

Further, President Ruto committed to supporting the two-thirds gender rule to ensure women secure more leadership roles.

"I want to inform women that later today, I will receive a comprehensive report from NADCO, and one of the crucial aspects in the report is the two-thirds gender rule. As a government and as a party, we have decided to ensure that our parliament, through the parliamentary group and all the structures we have, will pass this matter so that women will take their rightful leadership positions,” Ruto stated.
