Senior officers at Lang'ata Women's Prison have also launched investigations to establish the cause of the night fire.

Lang'ata Women's Prison in Nairobi is counting losses after a huge inferno broke out on Monday night.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the fire broke out at one of the facilities before quickly spreading to the staff quarters.

A quick response from the Kenya Red Cross managed to contain the fire from causing further damage and sparking fear at the facility.

"A fire outbreak has been reported at Langata Women's Prison in Nairobi.  Efforts to extinguish the fire are currently underway," Kenya Red Cross sent an alert.

A team from Nairobi County also helped the Kenya Red Cross in containing the fire. Following the fire, seven staff quarters were affected.

However, by the time of this publication, the extent of the damage had not been revealed.

"The fire has been contained, thanks to the efforts of the County Fire Team and Kenya Red Cross first responders," Kenya Red Cross stated.

"Seven staff quarters have been affected. Ongoing assessments are underway to evaluate the extent of the damage and plan for recovery support," the Kenya Red Cross added.
