Days after CCTV footage was released showing a businessman being shot and later robbed by a gang riding on a boda boda, his family has broken the silence. 

Speaking to the media, the family noted that the businessman identified as Adan Ali Mohamed was helping run their venture and on that material day, he was collecting sales proceeds.

According to the family member, Adan specialises in selling vegetable cooking oil, and the money was collected over two days.

Giving details on what transpired, the family member noted that Adan went to the bank located at BBS Mall, where he had intended to deposit the money but found that it was closed.

"When he got to the bank, he found that it was closed and called the other person and told him that the bank was closed who then informed him to board a boda boda swiftly and leave," he stated.

"After like half a kilometre, he was ambushed by unknown robbers, shot him and stole the money," he added.

Adan was shot on Muratina Street in Eastleigh on Saturday, March 30. The incident was captured on CCTV that showed two armed assailants accosting Adan and his rider, while also on a bodaboda.

One assailant jumped off the boda boda and approached Adan while pointing a pistol at him. He was then shot and the assailant stole the money valued at Ksh4.1 million.

Pedestrians rushed the businessman to hospital after the incident. On Sunday, detectives visited the scene and assessed the CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Starehe Police Commander Fred Abuga said they were searching for the two robbers.

Meanwhile, the traders in the area have called for increased security protection due to the booming businesses in Eastleigh.
