The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has exposed a matatu driver pulling dangerous stunts on a highway while endangering the lives of other motorists.

In a video shared by the authority on Monday, April 1, the driver of the said vehicle was recorded swerving from one side of the road to the other recklessly without taking into consideration other motorists who were using the busy highway.

While the driver pulled the risky stunts, the occupants of the vehicle were also recorded removing their hands and blowing vuvuzelas to encourage the driver.

Following the incident, NTSA vowed to take action against the crew of the vehicle whose number plates were well captured in the shared video.

"In a split second, a catastrophic incident could occur as a result of such behaviour. The driver risked his life, that of his passengers and other road users," NTSA wrote.

"Passengers cheering on reckless drivers endanger their own lives. We will take action against the crew of this vehicle," the authority added.



This comes just a day after several passengers were arrested and vehicles impounded for violating traffic rules.

Some of the vehicles without proper documents including inspection and road service license (RSL) were impounded with number plates removed. 

" This is a routine exercise that is taking place across the country. We want to ensure every Kenyan is safe on the road," NTSA's principal communication officer Anthony Nyongesa stated.

On Monday, April 1, the National Police Service also warned motorists against using strobe lights making it clear that they will be apprehended.

"In the implementation of the directive on the ban use of strobe lights, light bars, sirens etc, several vehicles were nabbed at various check points. To avoid any inconveniences, all motor vehicle owners are advised to remove modified or unauthorized lights on their vehicles," NTSA warned.
