The nasty accident claimed lives leaving many others injured.

Scores of people are feared dead and several others critically injured after the bus they were onboarded was involved in an accident on Sunday, April 7.

The Kensilver bus was Nairobi-bound from Maua, Meru county when it crashed on the bridge.

Photos shared online showed the ill-fated bus lying sideways after overturning on the spot along the Meru-Nairobi Highway.

The driver's compartment was destroyed presumably by the impact of the crash.

County emergency personnel showed up at the scene with their trucks for the rescue mission.

Police were also at the scene.

The number of fatalities and those injured were yet to be established by press time; the cause of the crash also remained unclear.

Nithi Bridge is known to be an accident black spot.

In July 2022, 34 people were killed and many others injured after the Modern Coast bus they had boarded plunged off the Nithi Bridge.

The bus was en route to Mombasa from Meru when it lost control and fell off the bridge.

The accident occurred hours after another one on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Two people perished in the tragic crash on the highway in the Kikuyu sub-county on Saturday morning, April 6.

This was after a 60-seater bus belonging to Eldoret Express rammed into a fuel tanker on the road.

Confirming the accident, Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Ronald Kirui said 10 others were critically injured and were admitted to hospital.

The bus headed to Nairobi from Nakuru hit the tanker which had parked by the road.

The fatalities' bodies were booked into the P.C.E.A Thogoto Hospital morgue.

According to the police, flooding from the ongoing rains was a contributory factor to the accident.

Kirui called on the motorists to exercise care while plying the roads.
