Weatherman Issues Heavy Downpour Alert In 7 Regions

The Kenya Met Department has warned members of the public of heavy rainfall expected to continue across the country.

In a statement on Monday, April 8, the weatherman said the heavy rainfall will continue in Central Highlands, Western region, Rift Valley, Coast, North Eastern, and South Eastern lowlands.

“Rainfall to continue across the country, with heavy rainfall anticipated in Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the forecast reads in part.

At the same time, the Met Department noted that Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale counties would experience high daytime temps exceeding 30°C.

“High daytime temps exceeding 30°C expected in Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale. Night-time temps likely to remain high (above 25°C) in parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the weatherman stated.

On April 2, the Met Department predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds will hit various parts of the country before reducing.

The department noted that rainfall of more than 30mm was expected over several parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley including the Nairobi area.

"The heavy rainfall is likely to intensify to more than 40mm in 24 hours and spread to Southeast Lowlands, coast, and northern sector on Wednesday 3rd April 2024. It is likely to reduce in intensity on Thursday 4th April, 2024. The heavy rainfall is likely to be accompanied by gusty winds," the statement read in part.
