Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has directed road agencies to ensure all busy roads within Nairobi County and its environments have clear markings.
In an update via X on Tuesday, April 9, CS Murkomen also ordered the agencies to ensure that the roads in Nairobi have proper signage to avoid road crashes.
The Transport CS also called on motorists and pedestrians to observe traffic rules when using the roads.
“To avert cases of road crashes in Nairobi and its environs, I directed the Agencies involved to ensure all the busy roads in the County have clear markings and proper signage and called on motorists and pedestrians to observe traffic rules when using the roads,” Murkomen ordered.
He issued the directive after a consultative meeting with leaders from Nairobi County over the state of road and rail infrastructure and ongoing efforts to streamline the public transport sub-sector in the County.

Murkomen mentioned that his ministry is working with Parliament and development partners to fast-track the rollout of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and the completion of pending road construction works.
“We are working with Parliament and development partners to speed up the completion of pending road construction works in Nairobi, and fast-track the roll-out of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in an effort to decongest the City and enhance seamless movement of people within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area,” said Murkomen.
The Transport CS’s directive comes after eight people were killed in a tragic accident along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Tuesday morning. The survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency services.
In another accident, six people lost their lives after a Probox vehicle, which was ferrying an unknown number of passengers collided head-on with a lorry in the Duka Moja area along the Kericho-Nakuru highway.
The Probox was heading towards Kericho town while the lorry was heading in the opposite direction.
