The airport's authority explained that the outage was caused by an unprecedented technical hitch.

Services at Wilson Airport have been disrupted following the runway light outage that hit the facility.

In a statement released late on Thursday, April 11, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced the outage at the busy facility.

The airport's authority explained that the outage was caused by an unprecedented technical hitch.

“We would like to inform the public that the runway lights at Wilson Airport are currently out of service due to a technical fault. Our team is in the process of identifying the root cause,” read the statement.

KAA apologised for the hitch informing passengers that it was working around the clock to address the issue.

“As a precautionary measure, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our valued passengers and stakeholders," KAA added.

By the time of this publication, KAA had not issued an update on the issue. It is not yet clear if the planes were diverted to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) due to the hitch.

This comes just days after KAA announced plans to rehabilitate the airport by building a new terminal, and parking bay and even repairing the terminals.

According to KAA, revamping the facility is key to reducing pressure at JKIA and giving passengers the best travelling experience.

Wilson Airport mainly serves local flights which makes it among the busiest airports in the country.
