The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have busted 45-year-old James Waweru Njenga who has been masquerading as a qualified medical officer and obtaining money from unsuspecting patients.
In a statement on Friday, April 12, DCI said the suspect was arrested at his unregistered clinic in Nairobi’s Kayole Phase 1 area after a patient filed a complaint.
“James Waweru Njenga, 45, was arrested at his unregistered medical facility christened Axis Medical Clinic & Lab Services, by a team of detectives and officers from the Pharmacy & Poisons Board who were investigating a complaint from an affected patient,” read the statement in part.
According to the DCI, Waweru charged a 31-year-old male victim Sh 60,000 for sample tests allegedly at laboratories in some of the country's renowned medical facilities, before "diagnosing" him with a liver disorder.

“Despite being given a prescription, the patient's condition deteriorated forcing him to seek the opinion of another specialist at the Nairobi West Hospital. No lab test ran at the Hospital pointed to any liver issues,” DCI stated.
During the investigations, DCI sleuths uncovered that the medical reports issued to the patient by the quack purporting to be lab results from German Medical Centre, Jubaland Imaging Centre, and Mater Hospital were all falsified.
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board also confirmed that the suspect neither had any proof of registration as a medical officer, nor held a business registration certificate.
Waweru was taken by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station pending charges preferred against him.
