Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a 4-hour service disruption on some of its online services.

In a notice issued on Saturday, April 13, the taxman announced that key iTax service would be unavailable for four hours.

iTax allows one to update their tax registration details, file tax returns, register all tax payments and make status enquiries with real-time monitoring of their ledger/account.

According to the notice, the services will be unavailable from Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 pm to Sunday, April 14 at 12:00 am.

"Kindly be advised of a scheduled iTax maintenance from today 8pm to Sunday 14th April, 12.00am," KRA announced.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused," the notice added.

The maintenance is geared towards helping KRA onboard and manage more services online.

Recently, the taxman introduced the Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS) as an enhancement to the Electronic Tax Register (ETR) regime.

The Finance Act 2023 introduced a further enhancement through a software solution called Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) which is intended to provide taxpayers with a simple, convenient, and flexible electronic invoicing option.

Although its rollout was opposed by some traders, eTIMs have started being adopted to ease paying of taxes and obliging with KRA directives.

The platform is designed to enable non-VAT registered taxpayers to electronically generate and send their invoices to KRA through an easy-to-use interface.

Under this option, the businesses can raise eTIMS invoices via the eCitizen platform at eCitizen.kra.go.ke or using a USSD option by dialling *222#.
