Taking the credit, the president revealed to Kenyans the prices would significantly reduce this Sunday.

President William Ruto has revealed that the price of fuel products will be reduced by Sh 10 in the review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), which is expected on Sunday, April 14.

He suggested the amount was significant in recent days.

The president revealed this during a church service in Nyeri County where he listed some of the achievements under his administration so far.

"A few months back, many were having doubts, if we would ever get on our feet as a country. I told them we must make the right decisions. Today the price of maize flour has gone down. The dollar was at Sh 160 today it is below Sh 130, and also the price of fuel will be lower by Sh 10," he revealed.

President William Ruto assured Kenyans the price of fuel would significantly reduce.

This came hours after government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura told Kenyans to expect a significant reduction in fuel prices as EPRA was set to announce the monthly pricing schedule.

In a statement on Sunday, April 14, Mwaura said the new prices which will be announced at 3 pm will go a long way in reducing the high cost of living for Kenyans.

“A major announcement on the reduction of fuel prices shall be made today at 3:00 pm by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Agency (EPRA)! This will go a long way in reducing the cost of living in the country for hustlers and Kenyans at large,” Mwaura stated.

The new prices are likely to factor in the Kenyan shilling’s strong performance against the dollar and a drop in global fuel prices last month.

In the last review on March 14, EPRA reduced the price of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene by Sh7.21, Sh 5.09 and Sh 4.49 per litre respectively.

The price drop was the biggest since May 2020.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decrease by KShs.7.21 per litre, KShs.5.09 per litre and KShs.4.49 per litre respectively,” EPRA stated on March 14.

Currently, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene are retailing at Sh199.15, Sh190.38 and Sh188.74 in Nairobi while in Mombasa, Super Petrol retails at Sh 195.97, Diesel at Sh 187.21 and Kerosene at Sh 185.58.
