The demands come after a leaked audio clip of a senior security official disclosed a plan to deal with Governor Simba Arati.

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) now wants the government to beef up Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s security.

In a statement on Monday, April 15, ODM claimed that Governor Arati is being harassed by the police and officers in the National Government yet the government is quiet on this whole matter.

The Raila Odinga-led party also demanded that the government take action on perpetrators plotting against Governor Arati.

“The ODM party takes note of the recent telephone conversation of a senior police officer in the DCI Kenya that was recorded and has been circulating in the media. We demand that Hon. Arati be accorded maximum security as required by law and action taken against the perpetrators of the illegal plans and threats to his life,” read the statement in part.

This comes after a leaked audio clip of a senior security official in Kisii County disclosed a plan to deal with Arati and some of his close associates.

In the five-minute audio, the senior security officer also disclosed a plan to withdraw Arati’s security plant weapons at his home and then organize a riad to retrieve the alleged weapons.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki last month deployed a special security team to Kisii County to deal with recent criminal incidents witnessed in the county and bring to account the organizers, financiers, and perpetrators of the violence.

CS Kindiki also announced that the government made changes in security personnel in the county.

“The Government has made personnel changes and a special team has been deployed to investigate and bring to account, organizers, financiers, and perpetrators of violent criminal incidents recently witnessed in parts of Kisii County,” said Kindiki.
