The State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services has put the normal application and collection of passports on hold.

In a statement via X on Tuesday, April 30, the State Department noted that it was experiencing a system downtime that has affected the application and collection of passports.

The Immigration Department mentioned that its technical team is working to resolve the issue and ensure the resumption of normal services.

“We regret to inform our clients that we are currently experiencing a downtime that has affected our normal passport application receiving and collection services.

“Our engineers are working to resolve the issue and ensure the resumption of normal services as soon as possible,” read the statement in part.

The Immigration Department also said that affected applicants will be provided with alternative dates as soon as possible.

This comes days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced the ministry had addressed the historical backlog in the processing of passports.

On April 22, CS Kindiki said the Government had facilitated the acquisition of adequate passport printing equipment, paid all the pending supplier bills, and addressed the supply chain constraints.

“The Government reiterates its commitment to ensure that effective 1st May 2024, all applications for the Kenyan passport will be processed within 21 days from the date of application. This period will reduce to 7 days from 1st August 2024 and 3 days from 1st September 2024,” the Interior CS stated.
